Elspeth has been running, coaching and working in the world of athletics for over 25 years. As a former international distance runner, she brings a vast amount of personal experience, knowledge and expertise at many levels to her role as a coach. Motivated to help runners and athletes of all ages and abilities achieve their potential and reach their goal, whether this is completing a 5k, running a marathon or smashing a PB, is what she’s about.
A degree in Sports & Fitness Management from the University of Alabama where she was a scholarship athlete subsequently led her to Lancashire, Somerset, Germany and Denmark to work as a teacher and Personal Fitness Trainer before launching into an 18-year career in athletics development with governing bodies of athletics including England Athletics. There she organised and ran coach mentor programmes, county and regional squads, established beginner running groups and organised over 50 workshops in topics such as Marathon Preparation, Psychology & Confidence, Biomechanics of Running, Physical Preparation, Visually Impaired Running, Training for Running in Water, Posture & Screening, Nutrition and Child Athlete Development. She currently coaches young athletes from the age of 10 in fundamental movement skills, athletics and endurance running as well as adults.
As a keen competitor, 2017 saw her finish the first Over 50 female in the London Marathon and in 2018 she was the fastest Over 50 female parkrunner in the UK. In the 2018 British rankings for the Over 50 age group she placed 2nd at 10k, 2nd at Half Marathon and 1st for 5000m on the track. She was also overall first female home in both the 2018 Worthing and Brighton Phoenix 10k’s and ran her quickest half marathon for over 20 years at this years 2019 Brighton Half Marathon.
Elspeth loves running and understands the joy of ‘just going for a run’ but also values the sense of accomplishment when the ‘training miles run’ translate into improved fitness, faster times and achievement of new goals.
She believes everyone can improve but knows that with busy lives people want to maximise both the enjoyment and satisfaction of time spent exercising. Knowing what to do and when is important. With her knowledge, enthusiasm and love of the sport she can guide and motivate you to get on the right track and get the most out of your running.
